An AI that manages an ESPN fantasy baseball team every day
The daily lineup problem is the whole product: what Knute does on an ESPN baseball team each morning, and what it refuses to do.
The short answer
Is there an AI that manages an ESPN fantasy baseball team every day?
Yes. Knute manages ESPN fantasy baseball teams today. Once a day, before the slate, it reads your roster, the injury and IL picture and the day's probable starters, sets the starters on your ESPN team, cleans up the IL, and works the waiver wire in your league's scoring format, at the autonomy level you choose. It never makes trades.
I built Knute, for baseball first. Here is what it does in a day and what it does not do.
01 / Where it started
Baseball came first
Fantasy baseball is a six-month season with a lineup lock nearly every day. The decisions are small, there are a lot of them, and missing a morning costs you a slate. That grind is the problem I started with.
The first version of Knute was a baseball-only daily agent that wrote real moves on my own ESPN team for weeks before anyone else used it. Football came later, on the same pipeline.

What one morning looks like

Read the league, not a summary of it
Scoring rules, roster slots and IL capacity come from your ESPN league, along with starters, bench, IL, locks, eligibility, current injuries and which of your players actually have a game that day. An off-day is a fact, not a surprise.

Check every intended starter by name
Each intended starter is checked for current injury and IL status, not yesterday's snapshot. For pitchers it confirms the start itself against the day's probable starters and each pitcher's next scheduled start. A lineup set without those checks is a guess.

Clean up the IL
IL-eligible players go into IL slots when there is room, never past the capacity your league reports. Players who are out but not IL-eligible, such as day-to-day, are benched, not hidden. Healthy players come off the IL. If the IL is full, a slot is freed first.

Set the lineup, log it, stop
The starters are written to your ESPN team before the lock, with the reasoning behind each change. Then it stops until tomorrow. There is no intraday watch: a midday scratch waits for the next pass unless you ask in chat, where it can make the move on request.
03 / A hypothetical Tuesday
Three problems, one pass
Invented roster, invented day. Your second baseman is day-to-day with a sore wrist: unavailable but not IL-eligible, so he is benched and a bat with a game takes the slot. Your fourth starter went on the 15-day IL overnight; an IL slot is open, so he moves there. Your third pitching slot holds a pitcher whose team is off, so Knute checks the day's probables, finds a rostered arm who does pitch, and swaps him in, because an empty slot scores nothing. If nobody on the roster pitches today, the waiver pass treats a streaming starter as a cheap add, not a bid.
04 / Waivers and scoring
Waivers in your league's format
Knute places FAAB bids and priority claims sized to your roster and remaining budget. A bid larger than what you have left is rejected before it reaches ESPN, and it can cancel a claim it already submitted. Its baseball waiver strategy fills the lineup with free moves first, treats pitching as volume, and does not overpay for a one-day streamer.
Scoring formats, honestly. Knute reads your league's scoring type from ESPN and branches on it. Points leagues, including head-to-head points, are optimized against projected points. In head-to-head categories and roto leagues it fills each slot with the best available player, because full category optimization is not built yet, and it says so in its reasoning.
05 / How much it may do
Three levels, set per league
Advisor: it proposes every move and nothing happens until you approve it. Co-pilot: routine lineups, waivers and injury pivots fire automatically; the bigger calls are flagged for you. Autopilot: it runs the team inside limits you define, including players it may not drop. Change the level any time; every move is logged; one tap switches it off.
It is September 2026 and the regular season is in its final weeks. As long as your ESPN league is still scoring, the same morning loop runs.
06 / Boundaries
What Knute does not do
It never makes trades. Multi-team transactions are refused at the same gate that permits lineups, adds, drops and waiver claims, so no setting turns them on. It works on ESPN only. It does not plan two-start weeks. It sets today's lineup, not future days. Live drafting covers supported ESPN fantasy football snake drafts, not baseball drafts and not auctions.
It does not promise wins. What it changes is who does the daily clicking, and whether there is a record of it.

Yes. On each daily pass it moves IL-eligible players into IL slots when capacity permits, never above the capacity your league reports, benches unavailable players who are not IL-eligible rather than hiding them, and activates players who are healthy again.

Does Knute work the waiver wire in a roto or categories league?
It places FAAB bids and priority claims in points, head-to-head categories and roto leagues, sized to your roster and remaining budget. Lineups in points leagues are optimized against projected points. In categories and roto leagues, Knute fills each slot with the best available player; full category optimization is not built yet.

Does Knute stream pitchers or plan two-start weeks?
Partly. It checks probable starters by date, so a pitcher without a start that day does not occupy a slot, and its waiver strategy treats a streaming starter as a cheap pickup rather than something to overpay for. It does not plan two-start weeks as a distinct feature, and I will not claim that it does.
